The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams were said to be the front-runners in the Christian McCaffrey sweepstakes, and it appears as though the former has prevailed in the end.
According to reports, the Niners acquired the star running back in a trade with the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night.
The news caught plenty who were watching Thursday Night Football by surprise, as Al Michaels dropped the news during Amazon Prime’s broadcast of the New Orleans Saints-Arizona Cardinals game.
Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey was one of the first to respond to the news, although he did so in a rather cryptic fashion, by tweeting out a laughing emoji.
Did he find it funny that the Niners would spend valuable assets to acquire a 26-year-old running back who’s set to make an awful lot of money over the next couple seasons? Whatever the case may be, Ramsey seemed to have a change of heart at some point, as he deleted the Tweet.
Unfortunately for him, nothing on the Internet is gone forever. Someone took a screenshot of his original reaction to the Christian McCaffrey trade and shared it with the world:
We’ll see who’s laughing when Ramsey gets his first look at McCaffrey in a Niners uniform during their week 8 matchup.
