The New England Patriots wasted little time replacing Trey Flowers after electing to not franchise tag him by completing a trade for veteran pass rusher Michael Bennett in a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles that will give the Birds a 2020 fifth-rounder from the Patriots, in exchange for Bennett and a 2020 seventh-rounder.
After hearing the news, Martellus Bennett was seriously thinking about coming out of retirement just so he could play alongside his brother for the first time in their NFL careers.
The soon-to-be 32-year-old likely ended any hope of that ever happening after he took to Instagram and posted a picture of himself just casually smoking weed.
Bennett couldn’t pass a drug test right now to save his life. The patriots trying to bring him on their roster would just be a distraction at this point, because it would just bring about questions as to if he’s smoking weed. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are not one to deal with distractions.
