Just after Jadeveon Clowney agreed to sign with the Tennessee Titans, we found out that the New Orleans Saints attempted to conduct a sign-and-trade to acquire Jadeveon Clowney, but the NFL wouldn’t allow the transaction to take place.
Due to their cap situation, New Orleans wanted the Cleveland Browns to sign Jadeveon Clowney for them. Then, the Saints would proceed to send a second-round pick to the Browns and pay $10 million of the $15 million contract that Cleveland would have signed him to.
On the flip side, the Ravens compiled a sign-and-trade plan that involved the Jacksonville Jaguars signing Jadeveon Clowney and would send a draft pick to entice Jacksonville to complete the move.
It didn’t matter in the end as the league wouldn’t authorize the move and neither team was given a chance to add him via trade.
