The Cleveland Browns really needed to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday to keep their slim playoff chances alive.
That didn’t happen and the team dropped to 5-7. The Steelers had all the motivation they needed before this game after Browns coach Freddie Kitchens sported a shirt reading “Pittsburgh started it” earlier in the week.
That was basically a reference to the brawl between the teams two weeks ago when Myles Garrett hit Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph in the head with a helmet.
Following the game, a few players on the Steelers blasted the head coach for his shirt.
“I thought it was pretty stupid,” Steelers offensive lineman David DeCastro said, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN. “That’s a lot of bulletin board material. I don’t know why you do that as a coach. I just don’t get that. Of course it’s going to motivate us. What are you thinking? It’s just not smart.”
Steelers guard Ramon Foster said:
“I know that our coach never would have done anything like that. “Why throw gas? When you do something like that, you throw your players in harms way. He’s not on the field. You throw your players in harms way when you do stuff like that with a vengeance. And I hate that for them.”
If only these teams played one more time this year…
