Fox Sports has already lost Joe Buck and Troy Aikman to ESPN, so they wanted a little pay back by taking one of their personalities.
However, the Worldwide Leader did what they had to do to make sure one talent wasn’t going anywhere.
According to a report, ESPN blocked Fox Sports from hiring away NFL analyst Damien Woody. Fox was wanting to give Woody a “huge” pay raise and pair him with Craig Carton for a new FS1 TV show.
ESPN blocked Fox Sports’ attempt to lure away Woody, per Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.
“ESPN intends to keep NFL analyst Damien Woody after Fox Sports pursued him with a potentially huge raise,” Marchand writes. “Fox planned to team Woody with Craig Carton on Carton’s forthcoming new Fox Sports 1 TV show, The Post has learned.”
ESPN was able to block them because Woody has one more year on his contract.
The 44-year-old Woody, an NFL guard from 1999-2010 with the Jets, Patriots and Lions, has been with ESPN for 11 years.
