Baker Mayfield appears to be getting closer to finding a new team, but nothing has matriculated as of yet.
Josina Anderson reports that the Seahawks still have a “high level of interest” in trading for the Browns quarterback. According to Anderson, Seattle is open to contractually extending Mayfield behind the scenes.
Anderson says that the Seahawks are still in the process of collecting information and insight into Mayfield.
This development comes just a week after CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones reported that the Carolina Panthers were operating with urgency to get a deal done for Mayfield.
Mayfield is due $18.85 million in the final year of his rookie contract.
Mayfield threw for 3,010 yards, 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 14 games played last year. It was a down year after he led the team to the playoffs the previous year and defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round.
