‘Several’ NFL Head Coaches Facing Fines For Improper Use of Face Coverings On Sideline (PICS)

The NFL sent a warning to every team following Week 1 to remind them that all coaches and staff members should be following the COVID-19 protocols.

“[W]e must remain vigilant and disciplined in following the processes and protocols put in place by not only the league, union and clubs, but also by state and local governments,” NFL VP Troy Vincent wrote in the memo sent to the teams. “Becoming careless or ignoring face covering and physical distancing requirements will put the 2020 season at risk.”

That warning clearly did not have the imapct the league wanted, because several coaches could now be facing fines for their improper use of face masks during Week 2 games.

The NFL is reviewing several coaches’ failure to properly wear face coverings in the sideline area during Sunday’s games for potential discipline, I’m told.

Kyle Shanahan had a mask with him on the sideline all day Sunday in the San Francisco 49ers’ 31-13 thumping of the New York Jets, but he just chose not to wear it.
