The sports and gaming worlds were both rocked by the news this week that legendary coach, sportscaster, and Madden franchise namesake John Madden has passed away.
Anthony Edwards needed to beat the brakes off of somebody in EA Sports’ Madden series after he learned of the death of John Madden.
The Minnesota Timberwolves is somebody who loves playing the game, as he fancies himself the best Madden player in the NBA. Once he heard the news of Madden’s passing, Edwards had to fire up the game and lay out an asswhooping to somebody in his honor.
“It was sickening, man,” said Edwards of Madden’s death, per Chris Hine of the Star Tribune. “I was playing [the video game] ‘Madden’ when I heard the news. So I had to beat somebody by 30, 40 points to show my respect.”
Edwards is only 20 years old, so he was not around for most of Madden’s broadcasting career, but you can tell that the 85-year-old transicnded different generations just because of the poular gaming series.
John Madden last graced the cover for the Hall of Fame Edition of Madden 07, and another Special Edition would be a fitting nod.
When the clock rolls around this June and EA Sports is ready to announce the successor to Madden 22, it should be the reveal of John Madden NFL 23.
