Back in May, the football world was brought to its knees when it was reported that Colt Brennan, who set numerous NCAA records as the quarterback of the University of Hawai’i, tragically dies at age 37.
Paramedics were called to a hotel room where Colt Brennan had been with other people. His father, Terry Brennan, said his son had ingested something laced with fentanyl and never regained consciousness.
A toxicology report confirmed that Colt Brennan died of an accidental drug overdose, according to TMZ.
The same day he was found in his hotel room, he reportedly tried to enter a detox program at a local hospital but he was turned away due to a lack of available beds.
“He was really into [the treatment program],” Terry told ESPN in May. “It involved a lot of physical activity and he liked it. He was working with soldiers who had come back from Afghanistan and Iraq with similar problems. He was doing quite well with it for four months. Then something happened and he went to the dark side, and it was just not good.”
In three season at Hawaii — Brennan led the program to a pair of double-digit win seasons in 2006 and 2007 while throwing for 5,549 yards and 58 touchdowns while completing nearly 73% of his passes during the 2006 season, a performance that helped him finish sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting that year.
