Sam Bruce, a former Miami signee and star at Fort Lauderdale’s St. Thomas Aquinas high school, died this week, according to multiple reports. He was 24.
Bruce is the nephew of NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Isaac Bruce.
More details have since come out in the aftermath of his death. On Friday, TMZ Sports released the 9-1-1 call which was made by a woman hours before Bruce’s death. Per the audio, Bruce was trapped inside of a crashed car while suffering a seizure.
“They can’t get him out,” the woman on the call can be heard saying. “And, the car is still in gear… People are trying to assist him… But, the car is still in gear. You can see it because the tires are spinning. Can’t nobody seem to get in.”

The caller went on to add that the seizure was keeping would-be rescuers from helping him. The seizure made Bruce hit the gas and it caused the tires to spin and the car to move.
“Every time the seizure hits, the tire spins,” the caller said. “Nobody seems to be able to get inside the vehicle to assist him.”
Bruce was a part of Miami’s 2016 recruiting class. However, he never played in a game for the Hurricanes and was dismissed from the team.
