Lawrence and the Jaguars fell 27-20 to Patrick Mahomes and the heavily favored Kansas City Chiefs in Saturday’s AFC Divisional Round tilt inside GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. A couple of late turnovers thwarted any hope the Jaguars had at making a comeback.
After the loss, Lawrence slowly made his way towards the Jacksonville locker room. Displaying excellent leadership and class, the second-year signal-caller took a few extra moments to congratulate his Jaguar teammates before security escorted him away.
One week after leading his Jaguars to a thrilling comeback over the Los Angeles Chargers in the Divisional Round, Lawrence came up just short against the likely 2022 league MVP. The No. 1 selection of the 2021 NFL Draft completed 24 of 39 pass attempts for 217 yards, a touchdown and one interception.
All in all, it was a tremendously successful season in Duval County. The Jaguars clinched just their second playoff berth since 2008 and got relatively close to upsetting the AFC’s top team. The future, simply put, has never been brighter for this organization.
