Zach Wilson and the New York Jets had months to figure something out and nothing has happened yet on the contract front. Wilson and 49ers quarterback Trey Lance are the only two of the 259 draft selections who haven’t signed contracts. (UPDATE: Trey Lance just signed)
Wilson is a no-show at the start of Jets training camp, which is a huge deal for a rookie QB that is projected to be the starter. Mike White is expected to throw the first pass of training camp, which further exposed the Jets’ glaring need for an experienced backup quarterback regardless of when Wilson finalizes his deal.
The negotiations holdup is believed to be over offset language in Wilson’s contract. As the second overall pick, Wilson is slotted to receive a four-year, $35.2 million contract that is fully guaranteed and includes a signing bonus of $22.9 million and a fifth-year team option.
Wilson needs every rep he can get to prepare for the opener. And new Jets head coach Robert Saleh won’t want to go through too many practices with Morgan or White running the offense.WANT MORE FROM TOTALPROSPORTS? FOLLOW US ON GOOGLE NEWS.
