The 2022 World Cup kicked off in Qatar on Sunday, with the host nation taking on Ecuador.
There were plenty of scandals that helped cast a dark shadow over the event before the opening game even kicked off. Among them was a rumor that several Ecuador players had been offered bribes to fix their opener against Qatar.
There are also the supposed bribes that were dished out in order to ensure that Qatar hosted soccer’s most prestigious event.
We’re not sure which of those scandals this Ecuador fan was referring to when he taunted the host nation’s fans during their game on Sunday, but it’s safe to say that the Qatari fans did not appreciate it.
That’s a risky gesture by the fan, who was in attendance with his family. That type of thing could get you arrested in a country like Qatar.
Luckily, no one was arrested or attacked, and everyone remained cool. In fact, the Ecuador fan apparently went on to make friends with the Qatari fan who was yelling at him.
I don’t think anyone saw this story ending like this based on how things started. I guess that’s what makes soccer such a beautiful game.
