Enes Kanter is going the Metta World Peace Route in his quest to make sure everybody on Earth gets treated equally.
On Sunday morning, it was reported that the Boston Celtics big man would be changing his name to Enes Kanter Freedom.
Kanter has been calling out the likes of LeBron James and Michael Jordan in the past few weeks as he has continued to be a political activist and humanitarian.
Kanter, who was exiled from his native Turkey, called out 17-time All-Star LeBron James via a message on custom basketball shoes. The shoes featured James being crowned by China’s General Secretary Xi Jinping, and questioned whether or not James has done any research on claims that alleged slave labor is used to make his Nike-branded merchandise.
He took it a step further with the Chicago Bulls legend when he claimed he has done nothing for his community.
“Not many people are talking about Michael Jordan,” Kanter said. “Michael Jordan hasn’t done anything, nothing, for the Black community in America besides just, you know, giving them money.”
“I feel like we need to call out these athletes,” Kanter said. “At least LeBron James is going out there and being the voice of all those people who are oppressed in America. Michael Jordan has not done anything for the Black community because he cares too much about his shoe sales all over the world and America, and I feel like we need to call out these athletes and not be scared about who they are.”
Following a 130-108 loss to the Celtics, James said he had not spoken to Kanter.
“I don’t give too many people my energy,” said James, who made his return from an abdominal strain that cost him the previous eight games. “He’s definitely not someone I would give my energy to. He’s trying to use my name to create an opportunity for himself. I definitely won’t comment too much on that. … He’s always had a word or two to say in my direction, and as a man, if you’ve got an issue with somebody, you really come up to him. He had his opportunity tonight. I saw him in the hallway, and he walked right by me.”
Don’t expect Jordan to ever respond to Kanter.
