Such a terrible day for Khabib and the MMA world after the tragic news was passed down that his dad has died at the age of 57 after a fight against coronavirus.
MMA trainer Abdulmanap, who coached his son to UFC lightweight championship glory, has been in hospital since May after being admitted after suffering a heart attack and pneumonia which was brought on by coronavirus. Last month, it had been reported that Abdulmanap awoke from his coma and was responsive.
Khabib’s arch-rival Conor McGregor had words of encouragement for the ailing wrestling coach.
“Praying for the recovery of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. A man responsible for more World champions, across multiple fighting disciplines, than we even know,” McGregor tweeted at the time.
