When the New England Patriots had Tom Brady, spending in free agency every year wasn’t really a thing to do since the team could insert anybody and they would advance to the AFC Title game and the Super Bowl.
Day 1 of the legal tampering period kicked off with a bang as the Patriots rolled into free agency like their stimulus check just hit and they had things to purchase.
The Patriots wasted no time in trying to rebuild a roster that went 7-9 in 2020.

One of the many people to respond to the signings was Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James:
Belichick shelled out $81 million in bonuses and guarantees in just day one. To show how insane that truly is for them, the Patriots spent $51 million in bonuses and guarantees on free agents over the prior three offseasons combined.
