The entire country woke up to the news that WNBA star Brittney Griner had been released from Russian custody roughly 10 months after being arrested for bringing vape cartridges containing hashish oil through a Moscow airport. That news, however, did not come with an announcement that Paul Whelan was being freed.
Griner was freed from a Russian penal colony in exchange for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. The U.S. Marine veteran was sentenced to 16 years in 2018 for espionage charges.
Whelan being in Russia really infuriated the wife of Jordan Poyer as she took Twitter to air out her grievences.
“So let me get this straight. We are sending billions to Ukraine for their war, however we just traded the “merchant of death” Russian arms dealer back to Russia DURING their war with Ukraine in exchange for a basketball player. Does that even SOUND RIGHT TO YOU?!”
“Athletes, do not apologize for how you feel on issues. Most the time you’re spot on anyways. You let the small loud majority get to you and then you issue apologies when you shouldn’t have to. You’re allowed to speak your mind just like everyone else. Speak it. Your voice matters”
The administration has faced mounting pressure to bring Griner home for the past several months, and they also made it clear that they wanted Whelan as well. However, Russia has been unwilling to do any trade for him, so whatever they said he did to be convicted, they want him to remain behind bars to pay for his alleged crimes.
Parsons is having another incredible season for the Cowboys after being named the 2021 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year in his first season.
For Jordan Poyer, he has earned 41 tackles and four interceptions in eight games this season.
